Nagaland students shine at India International Science Festival
One of the students receiving the award at the North East Students’ Conclave, India International Science Festival held at Lucknow from October 5 to 8.
Lucknow, October 10 (MExN): School students from Nagaland made the state proud by winning 6 prizes at the recent India International Science Festival held in Lucknow from October 5 to 8.
It includes 1 first prize, 2 second prizes, 2 third prizes and a consolation prize in the North East Students Conclave section of the prestigious event, informed a press release from the Director of School Education Wonthungo Tsopoe. Nagaland marched ahead of the other NE States in the conclave, it said.
Thirty seven presentations were made by students from the seven NE States on the theme “Developmental Prospects of North East” at the conclave.
Shoniu Shiu, a class 11 student of Baptist High Kohima secured the first position in the presentation.
Lemchila Sangtam, a class 11 student from Govt. Higher Secondary School, Tuensang and Kikasangla, a class 12 student from Holy Cross Higher Secondary School Dimapur secured the Second prizes.
Metsongmalem M Chang, a class 11 student from GHSS Tuensang and Yaikomba Thingujam, a class 10 student of Holy Cross HSS Dimapur bagged the third prizes.
Anushka Bhattacharjee, who is studying in class 11 in Pranab Vidayapit HSS, Dimapur received the consolation prize.
According to the release, eminent scientists from premier institutions of the country who were jury for the presentations were very much impressed by the talents exhibited by the students from Nagaland and encouraged them to pursue scientific research as career for the development of the region and the country.
“They assured all possible help for guiding the students from the State to pursue studies in various research oriented programmes,” it added.
The NE Students conclave was inaugurated by Union Cabinet Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan on October 7, where he highlighted the vast natural resources and potentials available in the region.
He also listed various initiatives undertaken by the central government to “bring prosperity and development” in the NE region.
Vardhan also conveyed the greetings of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the young student participants of the NE States and also shared about the special directives given by the PM to all the union ministers for giving importance to developmental projects of NE India.
The Nagaland team comprised 25 students and 5 teachers from Govt. HSS, Dimapur, Kohima, Mokokchung, Ungma, Phek, Mon, Tuensang , Holy Cross HSS Dimapur , Pranab Vidyabith HSS Dimapur, Baptist High Kohima, Mezhur HSS Kohima and Queen Marry HSS Mokokchong and was coordinated by Nellayappan, Asstt Director.
Menukhol John, Principal Secretary, School Education, Wonthungo Tsopoe, Director, School Education and Asano Sekhose, Chairman, NBSE, meanwhile congratulated all the winners and participants for bringing laurels to the State.
They also appreciated the efforts and support of the guide teachers, school authorities and parents that leads to this achievement.
