Season’s second cruise liner brings in 522 guests

VASCO: Goa received its second cruise liner for the current tourism season on Thursday, with the luxury vessel MV Boudicca docking for an overnight port of call at Mormugao Port Trust (MPT). The vessel, which belongs to the Norwegian-owned company, Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines, arrived with 522 international tourists and 388 crew members.“A majority of the guests are from the UK,” an official of the MPT said.The vessel departed from Abu Dhabi, UAE, on October 4, and docked at Mumbai prior to its arrival in Goa.The state’s cruise tourism season began on September 10, and MPT hopes to receive at least 35-40 cruise liners before it ends. “This is the season’s first cruise ship to have an overnight halt at the port, which will augur well as it will accrue higher economic benefits for the tourism sector, including tourists taxis and luxury coach operators,” an MPT official said.Officials of the department of tourism were present at the cruise berth terminal to receive the guests, who were accorded a traditional Goan welcome.Named after the British warrior queen, MV Boudicca has 462 rooms and can accommodate up to 880 guests.“All the visiting guests and the vessel’s crew were issued with e-landing cards by the Indian Bureau of Immigration from the immigration counters set up at the cruise berth terminal,” the MPT official said.MV Boudicca will depart for Kochi on Friday evening.
