Maqbool Bhat’s struggle and sacrifices beacon light for us: Malik

SRINAGAR: Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front on Monday said various ‘Youm-i-Maqbool’ programmes were held throughout the world to remember Muhammad Maqbool Bhat on his 35th anniversary, with party chief Muhammad Yasin Malik hailing the struggle and sacrifices of the JKLF ideologue as beacon light for “every oppressed nation”.
A JKLF statement issued here said protest programmes were held in Kashmir to commemorate Maqbool Bhat’s anniversary amid shutdown and stringent curfew.
On JRL call, a “grand” rally was held at Lal Chowk Srinagar during which several leaders were arrested, the statement said adding that a protest programme was also held at Maqbool Bhat’s birthplace Trehgam, Kupwara which was attended by various JKLF leaders.
A candle light march was also held in which thousands including women participated and demanded the return of mortal remains of their beloved leader, JKLF said adding that despite curfew; people in large numbers thronged the residence of Maqbool Bhat.
Various programs were held throughout the world on ‘Maqbool Day’ including in Islamabad, Pakistan; Helsinki, Finland; Barcelona, Spain; and Europe, JKLF said adding that demonstrations were held outside Indian embassy in Brussels Belgium.
JKLF UK organized a protest rally outside Indian embassy in which protesters demanding the return of mortal remains of Maqbool Bhat, the statement said adding that seminars and programmes were held in “Azad Kashmir”, Karachi, Lahore, Rawalpindi, Quetta, Peshawar in Pakistan, and Saudi Arabia, Dubai, wherein rich tributes were paid to Maqbool Bhat.
Meanwhile, JKLF chief in the statement said Maqbool Bhat “stands as a symbol of steadfastness and valour for us and serves a corner stone for our resistance against illegal military occupation of India”.
“Every aspect of his (Maqbool’s) life stands as a milestone for us and this nation can never forget his struggle and sacrifices,” he said. “When Indian rulers hanged Maqbool Bhat at Tihar Jail in 1984, they fancied about finishing Kashmiri resistance.The martyrdom of Maqbool Bhat gave birth to thousands of young Maqbools who till today are striving for the righteous cause, sacrificing their lives and writing down new chapters of passion, valour and greatness.”
