Tata Harrier Bags 10,000 Bookings
Tata Motors has announced that the Harrier SUV has crossed the 10,000 units booking milestone in the country. The bookings for the SUV had started in mid-Octoberlast year while it was officially launched on January 23, 2019. Being based on the Land Rover Discovery's D8 architecture, Tata Harrier rivals the likes of Hyundai Creta and Jeep Compass in the Indian market. The company also went on to state that a new variant with automatic transmission and sunroof in on the way to join the SUV's existing variant line-up.

“We have more than 10,000 pending orders, which is extremely strong. Could we have done better, sure. I would have loved to. From my own expectations of delivering exceptional quality, we did not meet expectations, but we were good so far and improving every day. We are booked for the next four months and I think that is a good show,” said Guenter Butschek, Managing Director, Tata Motors. Although the company has managed to deliver some 2000 odd units of the SUV so far, raising a few concerns regarding the quality of product. However, Butschek was quick to clear the air by stating that there were a few niggles initially which got addressed at the appropriate time at dealer end. He further said that there is nothing fundamentally wrong with the SUV.
Tata Motors has already captured a market share of 8 percent in UV segment so far in this financial year with sales of over 62,000 units. Undoubtedly, the Nexon sub-compact SUV has played an instrumental role in this success story. It was also learnt that Tata is keen to introduce petrol variants of the Harrier post the BS VI emission norms implementation. The company is working on an all-new 1.6L turbocharged GDI engine which will be launched in 2020. Additionally, the home-grown automaker plans to offer hybrid system with the Harrier to meet CAFE norms of 2022. So all that being said, the current waiting period for the SUV is nearly four months, depending upon the color, variant and city.
Tata Harrier was launched in a price range of Rs 12.69-16.25 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom, Delhi) in a total of four grades: XE, XM, XT and XZ.
