India vs Australia 5th ODI: Virat Kohli Falls to Marcus Stoinis in a Crucial Juncture

Team India skipper Virat Kohli was dismissed by Marcus Stoinis in a crucial juncture of the 5th and the final ODI at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium in New Delhi. The skipper looked in great touch and looked all set to score yet another match-winning century. However, he was dismissed on 20 of 22 deliveries by an ordinary delivery from Stoinis. It was a short of length delivery at a relatively low pace outside the off stump. Virat Kohli went for the slash towards the point. However, he got a fine edge which was safely pouched by Alex Carey behind the stumps.

Virat Kohli played a loose shot

The loss of Kohli’s wicket will surely be a huge loss for the home team. However, the likes of Rohit Sharma, Kedar Jadhav, Rohit Sharma and Vijay Shankar are still there. The target is just above par and despite Kohli’s wicket, India would back themselves to chase the target down. When the article was written India had lost the wickets of Shikhar Dhawan and Kohli and had scored 78 runs in 15 runs.

Earlier in the day, it was Australian skipper Aaron Finch who won the toss and opted to bat. Australia began pretty well as openers Finch and Usman Khawaja shared a 76 runs stand before Ravindra Jadeja castled him with a peach of a delivery. Khawaja kept on his rich vein of form in the century and went onto smash his 2nd ODI century and also the 2nd of the series.

The southpaw looked in sensational touch and was supported well by Peter Handscomb who scored yet another half-century. However, the Indian bowlers made a sensational comeback in the final few overs and restricted the visitors to a manageable score of 272 runs. It was a great piece of bowling by the pace trio.

If Pat Cummins and Jhye Richardson hadn’t shared a good partnership towards the end, Australia would have not crossed the 260 mark. The home team lost Shikhar Dhawan pretty early. However, Kohli and Rohit Sharma shared a good partnership to get India right back on track. But the wicket of Kohli would definitely put India under pressure. It would be interesting to see how the match pans out from here on.
