Vijay Shankar Or Hardik Pandya? Virat Kohli Reveals Allrounder For WC

India skipper Virat Kohli seems to have settled the debate over who will be the allrounder in India’s playing eleven during the World Cup. While Hardik Pandya looked like the man for that role, Vijay Shankar’s recent performances put him into contention for that slot. While Pandya remained on the sidelines due to controversy and then injury, Shankar managed to make a mark most notably in the second ODI against Australia. The allrounder had scored 46 runs before he defended 11 runs in the final over to fire India to a win.

However, his performance dipped after that.  In the last three ODIs against Australia, he failed to pick up any wicket while scoring 32, 26 and 16. In all the three games, India desperately needed Shankar to contribute big but he failed. And it looks like his performance has convinced skipper Kohli that Pandya is the right man for the job in England.  Speaking after losing the fifth and final ODI by 35 runs, the skipper said that the team is pretty much settled.

He further spoke on the allrounder’s slot and made it clear that once Hardik Pandya returns, he will take that role.

“As a side, combination wise, we are pretty sorted condition based. Maximum one change, you’ll get to see,” Virat Kohli said. “But other than that, the XI we want to play, we are pretty clear about it. As a side, we’re balanced.

he added.

India, meanwhile, lost the series-decider by 35 runs and conceded the series 2-3. Chasing 373, India were all out for 237. In fact at one stage, they were reeling at 132 for 6 before a 91-run stand between Kedar Jadhav and Bhuvneshwar Kumar provided some respectability to the total. The loss was India’s first ODI series loss at home since the defeat against South Africa in 2015. Australia, on the other hand, registered their first ODI series win since the 2016-17 season. This was also their first ODI series win in India since 2009.
