New hiking group ready to set trail

The new Mayerthorpe Hiking Group hit the trails last Monday and is set to do so on the same day every week in June.

Hiking Group organizer Christina Haunch-Ansorger said the participants had an “awesome evening” hiking the Mayerthorpe trails on June 3. The group hiked around Blue Ridge last Monday.

“We will always meet at the Fallen Four parking lot first and we can plan for our next (hike) before we leave,” said Haunch-Ansorger. “We have no expectations at this point.”

Haunch-Ansorger said pets and children are welcome as long as they can keep up with the group.

“Everyone needs to be responsible for themselves and their pet and/or child,” she said.

The group hikes at a medium to fast-pace rate and has the goal to stay together as a group.

“Come join us hiking in the great outdoors,” said Haunch-Ansorger. “Bring water, a snack, bug spray and sunscreen.”

She said people need to dress for the weather and be prepared to drive or carpool with friends to different areas to hike. The group will always meet at the Fallen Four parking lot, but they go to different locations to hike.

“We will be hiking throughout the summer and will have more hiking dates coming up in July,” she said.

Haunch-Ansorger also spearheads the meditation classes at the Mayerthorpe Public Library and Sangudo Public Library. She plans to teach more on meditation in October and throughout the fall, winter and spring
