ICC Test Rankings: Steve Smith, Pat Cummins Consolidate Top Positions

Following a fruitful Test match against England in the fourth Test of the 5-match series, Steve Smith and Pat Cummins have consolidated their positions in the ICC Test Rankings chart. The double century from Steve Smith and a brilliant spell of fast bowling from Pat Cummins helped Australia to win the game and retain their Ashes trophy.


Steve Smith’s player of the match effort of 211 and 82 runs in the two innings has lifted him to 937 rating points, only 10 less than his all-time best aggregate achieved in December 2017. He is now 34 points ahead of India captain Virat Kohli, which means that he is assured of remaining at the top at the end of the five-match series.

Pat Cummins registered 7/103:

Pat Cummins registered match figures of 7-103 across 48 overs. He has now extended his lead as the top-ranked Test bowler. And also, once again, he equalled the all-time Australian mark as the nation’s highest-rated bowler.


The fast bowler Pat Cummins is 63 points ahead of the second-placed Kagiso Rabada in the Test rankings chart, who was followed by India’s Jasprit Bumrah. The other notable member in the Australian squad, who took the limelight is Josh Hazlewood. He broke into the top 10 list of bowlers in ICC Test rankings.

The other players from the match to higher their rank are Jos Buttler (37), Tim Paine (60) and Rory Burns (61). Meanwhile, Asghar Afghan’s scores of 92 and 50 helped him to take 63rd position from 110th rank. Rashid Khan changed his rank from 69th to 37th while all-rounder Mohammad Nabi retired from Tests with 85th rank.

For Bangladesh, it was Shakib Al Hasan and Taijul Islam are the only gainers alongside the off-spinner Nayeem Hasan, who was decent in the one-off Test match
