Museum of Scientology felicitates Balwant Thakur

Cultural Diplomat of India to South Africa, Balwant Thakur being felicitated at Museum of Scientology in Johannesburg.

JAMMU, Oct 7: Cultural Diplomat of India to South Africa, Balwant Thakur was today felicitated by the museum of Scientology at Johannesburg in South Africa for introducing Indian classical music to the connoisseurs of world music.
Being head of the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre, Johannesburg, Thakur is the first Director to introduce the great tradition of Indian classical music in the museums of South Africa.
He showcased two accomplished singers of Drupad style of Indian classical music which included Sanjay Mallick and Arundhati Dhate. Drupad is genre in Hindustani classical music of Indian sub-continent. It is the oldest music, major vocal styles associated with Hindustani classical music. The most noteworthy of this initiative was that it was introduced in the museum of Scientology which has its branches world over.
Apart from regular programmes, the Indian Cultural Centre which Balwant Thakur is heading also conducts classes in Yoga, Indian classical music both vocal and instrumental, Dance and Hindi classes. In addition to this, the Johannesburg centre has a huge library where books on Indian history, heritage, culture, personalities, geography, tourism and economics are available.
