FIR against Mani Ratnam & 49 Others Quashed
Amidst huge outrage, the most debated FIR against 49 celebrities has been quashed finally. This is after a new letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi was sent by the cultural community questioning how writing an open letter to PM would be termed as 'an act of sedition' referring to the previous letter written by 49 celebrities who voiced their concerns over growing mob lynching incidents. The FIR was filed in Bihar's Muzaffarpur district against 49 celebrities including Mani Ratnam, Anurag Kashyap, Konkona Sen, Aparna Sen, Shyam Benegal, Ramchandra Guha and several others.
It all started with an advocate who had filed the petition in the Chief Magistrate court questioning the celebs opinions, which after hearing the case ordered police to lodge an FIR against the celebrities. The police officials confirmed that the FIR was filed on the basis of the order by the local court.
A massive outrage erupted against this move. Stars like Kamal Haasan have openly opposed and criticized it. "The Prime minister seeks a harmonius India. His statements in the parliament confirms it. Should not the state and it's law follow it in letter and spirit? 49 of my peers have been accused, of sedition, contradicting the PM's aspirations. I request as a citizen that Our Higher courts move in to uphold justice with Democracy and quash the case eminating from Bihar," Kamal wrote on his Twitter page a day ago.
Looks like, the growing outrage from celebrity community is heard. The FIR filed in Bihar against the 49 celebrities has been revoked.
