PM calls on youth to vote for Sajith to protect democracy
Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe called on all youth to vote for New Democratic Front (NDF) Presidential aspirant Sajith Premadasa to protect and ensure democracy in the country.
The Premier was speaking at a public rally in Sammanthurai yesterday in support of NDF Presidential candidate Sajith Premadasa led by the organizer of Youth Corp of the All Ceylon Makkal Congress (ACMC) S.M.M. Mussaraff under the auspices of Minister of Industry and Commerce, Resettlement of Protracted Displaced Persons, Cooperative Development, Vocational Training and Skills Development and ACMC Leader Rishad Bathiutheen.
“November 16 is an important day for all the youth and people of this country. You all have a responsibly to protect democracy in this country. We brought a revolution to change the previous government led by Mahinda Rajapaksa and usher in democracy in 2015. The youth of this country are its assets,” he said.
“You can vote for your future on November 16 by supporting Sajith Premadasa. If you vote for the Opposition candidate, your future will be in jeopardy. Former President Mahinda Rajapaksha and his team travel on a different path. We work for establishing democracy, but they create disunity among communities,” the Premier said.
“The SLPP speaks at their rallies in the South that the UNP signed a secret agreement. This is the way they use to spread disunity between communities. If you want to live peacefully and establish national reconciliation, your vote will be for Sajith Premadasa.”
“The war-affected areas in Batticaloa, Ampara, and Trincomalee are to be developed shortly. We have requested international funds for such development,” the Premier said. “We have taken steps to develop the agriculture sector by providing financial assistance, equipment and machinery to increase production. The fishing industry is also to be modernised by providing financial assistance and equipment.”
“Ampara and Batticaloa districts will also get BOI zones to create job opportunities. If the agriculture and other sectors are developed, trade, commerce will increase. The youths will get jobs through our development projects.”
“Mattala airport will begin functioning next year. If tourism from Vakarai to Arugambay is developed, many job opportunities will be created for youth, in hotels, restaurants, and other service areas.”
“To create job opportunities, we will establish Information Technology centres in Kalmunai, Ampara and Sammanthurai. Vocational training centres will also be developed under our regime. The ACMC is working hard for the victory of Sajith Premadasa. We will together make Sri Lanka a peaceful country. On the 16th, vote for Sajith Premadasa. The swan will protect democracy.”
Other Cabinet Ministers and State Ministers and former Governors were also present.
