Wondering where the controversial self-styled godman Nithyananda has been up to, the answer is in his new "nation"! Yes, you heard it right. The absconding godman has founded a new nation, named "Kailaasa". According to unconfirmed reports, Nithyananda brought a private island from Ecuador and declared it as a Hindu sovereign nation. He has also designed a flag and passport for his nation. Kailaasa, situated close to Trinidad and Tobago, even has a cabinet with a Prime Minister. "Kailaasa is a nation without borders created by dispossessed Hindus from around the world who lost the right to practice Hinduism authentically in their own countries," reads the introduction on the website. Not only this, two versions of passport for the new nation have been finalised, one with a golden colour and another red. The 'Kailaasa' flag has a maroon background with Nithyananda himself along with Nandi cow. Nithyananda's dream project also claims to provide free healthcare, free food, free education and revival of “temple based lifestyle.”

The mission section of the website reads: "Kailaasa was created with the determination to not just preserve and protect Sanatana Hindu Dharma and share it with the entire world, but also to share the story of persecution that is yet unknown to the world. Towards this goal, Kailaasa is dedicated to the preservation, restoration and revival of an enlightened culture and civilization based on authentic Hinduism."
Kailaasa's legal team has been working on a petition to the United Nations to recognise it as a nation. In the petition, Nithyananda has called himself a victim and claimed that his life is at risk in India because he wants to practice and spread Hinduism.
Reportedly, Nithyananda may have fled India after jumping bail despite in possession of an expired passport, possibly via Nepal and by using a fake passport. The self-styled godman faces multiple charges. In the past one year, he had also skipped 43 summons.
