Milagres College Kallianpur gets new Solar Energy System and renovated Chemistry lab

  Udupi: Milagres College, Kallianpur one of the leading educational institutions in the district and in Mangalore University has marched towards the initiative of installing the Solar Energy System and renovating the Chemistry laboratory which was held on Saturday, June 27, 2020.

Bishop of Udupi Diocese and President of Catholic Education Society of Diocese Most Rev Dr. Gerald Isaac Lobo inaugurated and blessed the Chemistry Laboratory hall and the Solar Energy System electric grid board and lead the prayer service.

After the inauguration, a brief stage programme was held at college Video-Audio hall which was presided over by Bishop Most Rev Dr. Gerald Isaac Lobo. Very Rev Dr. Lawrence C D’Souza, Correspondent of Milagres Educational Institutions and Rector of Milagres Cathedral, Dr. Vincent Alva, Principal, Milagres College, Salvadore Noronha President of Milagres College Alumni Association, Prof. Joseph Peter Fernandes Dean of Science Faculty and HOD of Chemistry, Dr. Sureka Bhat Faculty representative were present on the dais.

In his presidential address, Bishop said that "the installation of the Solar Energy System will help the college economically. We should use the God-given opportunity. This is a model for other institutions. Pope Francis called has invited the people to protect, preserve, and promote a good environment."

Further Bishop said that "Chemistry laboratory is very important for the students of Science in the modern era. It will help the students to understand and research in a better way. Students should take advantage of the renovated chemistry lab of the college."

Earlier Rev Dr. Lawrence C D’Souza said that the solar energy system would minimize the financial burden of the college while the renovated chemistry laboratory would get more beneficial for the students to study and research. He conveyed his gratitude to the donors of the solar energy installation panel Stephen Cornelio, Alumnus of the college in the name of his parents late Albert Cornelio and late Cymprian Cornelio of Kakkunje. He also thanked Bhaskar Naik, Alumnus of the college who sponsored Rs 5 lakh for the renovation of the chemistry laboratory. 

Dr. Vincent Alva delivered vote of thanks. Earlier Very Rev Dr. Lawrence C D’Souza welcomed the gathering. Rosalia Cardoza compered the programme.

Former Principal Dr. Gerald Pinto, Chemistry faculty of the college Rev Fr. Dr. Prakash Anil Castelino, Asst parish priest Rev Fr. Canute Noronha, former retired professors, alumni members, parish pastoral council and management members, faculty and others were present.
