29 players including Ishant Sharma recommended for Arjuna Award
New Delhi: Indian fast bowler Ishant Sharma is among 29 players whose names have been recommended by the Sports Ministry's Award Selection Committee on Tuesday for this year's Arjuna Award. The names of male recurve archer Atanu Das, female hockey player Deepika Thakur, cricketer Deepak Hooda and tennis player Divij Sharan have also been recommended for this prestigious award.
Official sources gave this information after the selection committee meeting. The 31-year-old has played 97 Tests and 80 ODIs for India so far and has more than 400 international wickets to his name. It is also learned that Olympic bronze medalist Sakshi Malik and former world champion weightlifter Mirabai Chanu have also received the support of the committee but the final verdict has been left to the Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju as both these women players have previously received the Khel Ratna Award Already happened.
Sakshi was given the Khel Ratna award after winning a bronze medal at the Rio Olympics in 2016, while Meerabai won the award along with 2018 Indian cricket captain Virat Kohli for winning the gold medal at the World Championships.
